VIRTUAL CATERING CASE STUDY
WOCN SOCIETY: ASSOCIATION MEMBER APPRECIATION EVENTS
It’s Board of Directors and leaders consist of 20-30 nurse volunteers who dedicate their time and expertise to further WOCN’s mission, traveling to meetings throughout the year and managing full-time healthcare careers and families.
Brooke Passy, WOCN’s meeting planner, and Nicolette Zuecca, WOCN’s Chief Staff Executive, are incredibly grateful for the Board’s dedication, and always go the extra mile to demonstrate their appreciation. With a defined budget, Brooke has the luxury of treating board members well by curating special gatherings as well as remembering the details and personal preferences of individuals.
When it came time to put together the Planning Committee Meeting in August, Brooke was intent to show attendees they were valued. Luckily for Dineable, Brooke is local to Philadelphia and a member of Meeting Professional International (MPI). At MPI’s June conference, she was introduced to the power of including Dineable virtual catering in an online event and she reached out immediately afterwards to start a relationship.
“It was a FANTASTIC addition to our meeting. So very thoughtful!” – WOCN Society Leader
The August event attendees included board members, guests, and speakers. Usually, WOCN board meetings include networking happy hours, dinners, and gift bags with special products and members’ favorite treats. For this meeting they wanted to provide a breakfast and coffee break box and Dineable worked with Brooke to provide that experience.
At that time, in order to ship to members across the country, Dineable kept all items shelf-stable. The menu was curated through Philadelphia’s Reading Terminal Market with All About Events. It included everything from canned coffee to artisan chocolates and mocktail instructions with fresh herbs, lemons, and a cocktail shaker.
“One board member jokingly asked where the wine was. I remembered her comment when it came time to plan our October meeting. The breakfast and coffee break box was such a hit with everyone talking about the different items and how much they enjoyed the chocolate or popcorn, and I really wanted to go above that bar,” Brooke said.
Between the two WOCN meetings, Dineable expanded its services and Brooke was thrilled. Dineable could now deliver high-end, chilled meals to locations all over the country. And, much to her delight, had recently partnered with Voluptuary Wines in California. She ordered the Mediterranean board with a wine pairing and hosting.
Virtual Experiences Have the Power to Surpass Live Events
The tasting ended a very long day, the last hour of which had been tense. Everyone received their wine and their Mediterranean plates and, after they settled in, a sommelier came on live to lead them through the wine pairing.
“Everyone loved it. They gave us literature and even gifted us a discount code to order wine- which I did. We had a meal and wine and good conversation. It was so relaxing and really brought us back together,” Brooke said.
In fact, according to Brooke, the virtual wine pairing was even more fun than their typical 30-person dinners, “Usually, at dinner with that many people, you segment into smaller groups and end up talking about the day or work. The experience of the wine pairing was a nice escape from the ordinary day.”
“That was the coolest thing we have ever done. EVERYONE loved it. Considering how tense the previous hour was and how polarized some of us felt, it was actually quite unifying.”
Past President, about the wine pairing event
- Collaborating with a Winery: For this event, we were learning how to navigate a new partnership with the wine company and incorporating this “hosted” element to the catering experience.
- Delivering Alcohol: This requires a physical ID check, so clear advance communication about delivery windows is absolutely vital.
